Hoy, según el calendario tradicional romano de 1962, la Iglesia celebra la fiesta de los Santos Simón y Judas, apóstoles de Jesucristo. Simón, llamado el Cananeo o el Zelote, es conocido principalmente por su celo en la fe y su compromiso con la predicación del Evangelio, aunque los detalles específicos de su vida y apostolado permanecen envueltos en el misterio y la tradición. Judas, también denominado Tadeo, es venerado como el apóstol que preguntó a Cristo en la Última Cena: "Señor, ¿cómo es que te vas a manifestar a nosotros y no al mundo?" (Jn 14,22), y la tradición le atribuye la autoría de la epístola que lleva su nombre. La Iglesia asocia a estos dos apóstoles en la liturgia por la cercanía de sus labores apostólicas y porque, según ciertas tradiciones, habrían evangelizado juntos regiones de Persia y habrían sufrido el martirio por Cristo en ese territorio, aunque los detalles de su muerte son inciertos y basados en relatos antiguos.
La inclusión de su fiesta en el calendario tradicional, el 28 de octubre, subraya el testimonio de fidelidad y entrega de estos apóstoles, elegidos directamente por el Señor, e invita a los fieles a reflexionar sobre el deber de anunciar el Evangelio con valentía y perseverancia.
