Conmemoración de san Marcos, papa y confesor
Hoy, según el calendario romano tradicional de 1962, la Iglesia celebra la fiesta de la Bienaventurada Virgen María del Rosario. Esta devoción mariana está profundamente ligada a la práctica del rezo del Santo Rosario, una oración meditativa que contempla los principales misterios de la vida de Cristo y de la Virgen María. Su origen se asocia tradicionalmente a una revelación de la Virgen a Santo Domingo de Guzmán en el siglo XIII, aunque la difusión y el desarrollo estructurado del Rosario serían obra de los dominicos a lo largo de los siglos posteriores. El Rosario se consolidó como arma espiritual especialmente en tiempos de crisis: la fecha del 7 de octubre fue instaurada por el Papa San Pío V en acción de gracias por la victoria cristiana en la batalla de Lepanto (1571), cuando la cristiandad invocó el auxilio de la Virgen mediante el rezo del Rosario ante el peligro otomano.
El calendario litúrgico tradicional resalta la importancia del Rosario no solo como devoción privada, sino como poderosa intercesión de la Virgen por toda la Iglesia. El título de la fiesta expresa tanto la protección maternal de María como la riqueza espiritual contenida en la meditación de los misterios del Rosario. En la espiritualidad católica, la Virgen del Rosario es contemplada como guía segura hacia Cristo, fomentando la oración, la conversión continua y el crecimiento en la gracia. Por eso, la conmemoración goza de especial solemnidad (II clase), invitando a todos los fieles a renovar y fortalecer su amor a la Virgen y su confianza en la eficacia del Santo Rosario. Esta es la fiesta de la Bienaventurada Virgen María del Rosario tal como la recoge el calendario romano tradicional (1962).
