CatéGPT documentation

CatéGPT is a Catholic documentary assistant: it answers questions about the faith using the official texts of the Church and provides verifiable references for every answer.

From a question to a sourced, verified answer.
ℹ️
In short. You ask a question; CatéGPT searches the official sources, writes an answer at the chosen level, inserts [1], [2]… markers and verifies each link before showing it.

One minute to try — the feast of the day, without a key:

curl "https://categpt.chat/api/v1/feast?locale=en"

Every API page embeds a “try it” console that calls the real API from your browser, and the OpenAPI specification imports into Postman or Insomnia.

What CatéGPT does

  • Sourced answers — every key statement links to a source via a numbered marker tied to a list of verified references.
  • Two answer modesquick (concise) and academic (in-depth).
  • Six reading levels — the answer adapts to the audience (see the table below).
  • 7 languages — French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish; auto-detected.
  • Saint of the day & liturgical calendar — permanent daily pages (biography, Mass readings, Liturgy of the Hours), monthly calendar, RSS feed and a free daily card you can embed on your site. The calendar covers both forms of the rite: Novus Ordo Missae (official AELF texts) and Vetus Ordo Missae, 1960 calendar (texts from the Divinum Officium project).
  • Library — save and organize answers into folders.
  • Sharing — publish an answer as a read-only public link.
  • History & search — find your conversations and search within them.
  • APIsfree for the liturgical calendar, keyed for sourced answers.
  • Widget & plugins — add the chat to any site (see the widget and the CMS plugins).

How it works

  1. Question — the user writes their question in their language.
  2. Document search — the engine queries the official sources first (vatican.va, clerus.org…).
  3. Writing — an answer is written in the chosen mode and level.
  4. References — citations are extracted, verified (the link exists and points to a trusted source), then numbered.
  5. Suggestions — three “go further” questions are offered.

Sources

Answers favour the Church’s official corpus:

  • Sacred Scripture (Bible)
  • Catechism of the Catholic Church and its Compendium
  • Ecumenical councils
  • Papal magisterium (encyclicals, exhortations…)
  • Canon law
  • Social doctrine of the Church
  • Fathers and Doctors of the Church
💡
Reference links are verified automatically before display: a reference marked as verified points to a page that is actually reachable on a trusted source.

FAQ

Are the answers reliable? They draw on the official texts and cite their sources, which you can check. CatéGPT is a helper tool: when in doubt, refer to a priest or theologian.

Which languages? Seven: fr, en, de, it, es, pt, pl. Ask in any of them.

Can I add it to my site? Yes — see the widget, the CMS plugins or the APIs.

How do I get an integration key? Sign in and open the Embed the plugin page, then request access.
