Gedenkt der heiligen Protus und Hyazinth, Märtyrer
Der heutige Tag im traditionellen römischen Kalender (1962, Vetus Ordo) ist liturgisch als "Freitag nach dem 15. Sonntag nach Pfingsten" bezeichnet. Er ist somit ein sogenannter "Ferialtag" oder "grüner Werktag" ohne eigene Heiligen- oder Festfeier und wird der IV. Klasse zugeordnet, was bedeutet, dass keine besonderen Feste oder Hochfeste auf diesen Tag fallen und das Tagesformular aus dem Proprium de Tempore, also dem Jahreskreis, benutzt wird. Die liturgische Farbe ist grün, als Zeichen des kirchlichen Alltags und geistlichen Wachstums. Solche Werktage bieten Raum, die Lesungen, Gebete und den geistlichen Inhalt des vorangegangenen Sonntags weiter zu betrachten und im eigenen Leben zu vertiefen. Die katholische Kirche betont dadurch, dass das geistliche Leben nicht nur von den großen Festen, sondern auch vom beständigen, täglichen Wachstum genährt wird. Der traditionelle Kalender bewahrt dabei eine geordnete Struktur des Kirchenjahres und trägt zur Stetigkeit und Tiefe des spirituellen Alltags bei. Am heutigen Freitag ruft uns die Liturgie traditionsgemäß auch zu besonderem Gebet, Buße und Mitfeier der Eucharistie auf, wie es seit den frühesten Zeiten an Freitagen üblich ist, um an das Leiden Christi zu erinnern.
