Der heutige Tag ist ein gewöhnlicher Werktag (Feria) im liturgischen Jahreskreis, der unmittelbar dem 23. Sonntag nach Pfingsten folgt. In der zeitlichen Ordnung zwischen Pfingsten und dem Abschluss des Kirchenjahres nimmt diese Zeit eine besondere Stellung ein: Die Kirche lädt die Gläubigen zur inneren Sammlung und zur Betrachtung der Glaubensgeheimnisse ein, fernab der großen Feste und Heiligengedenktage. Solche Werktage dienen dazu, das spirituelle Leben im Alltag zu vertiefen, indem sie uns an die ständige Gegenwart Gottes erinnern und dazu aufrufen, die Tugenden zu üben und das Evangelium in kleinen, alltäglichen Taten zu verwirklichen. Die liturgische Farbe Grün unterstreicht diese alltägliche, wachsende Hoffnung auf das ewige Leben und das Streben nach Heiligkeit im gewöhnlichen Lebensvollzug. Werktage außerhalb festgelegter Gedenktage geben der Gemeinde die Möglichkeit, in den liturgischen Texten der Woche und der fortlaufenden Schriftlesung zur Ruhe zu kommen und sich stärker auf das persönliche Gebet und die Lebensführung im Lichte des Glaubens zu konzentrieren. Ihre Stellung im liturgischen Jahr macht diese Tage zu einem beständigen Impuls, die Gnade Gottes im Alltag zu empfangen und bewusst zu leben.
