Am 3. Oktober feiert der traditionelle römische Kalender von 1962 das Fest der heiligen Theresia vom Kinde Jesu, die auch als Theresia von Lisieux oder „die kleine Thérèse“ bekannt ist. Sie wurde 1873 in Alençon, Frankreich, geboren und trat schon als junges Mädchen in den Karmel von Lisieux ein. Ihre Spiritualität ist geprägt durch das Vertrauen auf Gottes Barmherzigkeit und die so genannte „kleine Weg“, einen einfachen, kindlichen Weg der Hingabe und Liebe in den kleinen Dingen des Alltags. Trotz ihres zurückgezogenen Lebens wurde Theresia nach ihrem frühen Tod 1897 durch ihre Autobiographie „Geschichte einer Seele“ international bekannt. Ihr verborgenes Leben und ihr Eifer in der Erfüllung kleinster Aufgaben aus Liebe zu Gott inspirieren bis heute viele Gläubige. Im Jahr 1925 wurde sie von Papst Pius XI. heiliggesprochen und im Jahr 1927 zur Patronin der Missionen erklärt. Ihr Fest wird im traditionellen Kalender am 3. Oktober gefeiert, da es zunächst auf den ersten freien Tag nach dem Todestag (30. September) gelegt wurde. Die Bedeutung dieses Festes im überlieferten römischen Ritus liegt in der besonderen Förderung einer Spiritualität des Vertrauens, der Hingabe an Gott und des täglichen Opfers. Die einfache und zugleich radikale Heiligkeit der heiligen Theresia erinnert daran, dass auch verborgenes und gewöhnliches Leben einen hohen Platz im Heilsplan Gottes haben kann. Dies ist das Fest der heiligen Theresia vom Kinde Jesu im traditionellen römischen Kalender von 1962.
