Der heutige Tag im traditionellen römisch-katholischen Kalender von 1962 ist ein einfacher Werktag, eine sogenannte 'Feria' (Donnerstag nach dem 9. Sonntag nach Pfingsten). An solchen Tagen findet kein Hochfest, kein Heiligenfest und keine besondere liturgische Feier statt – sie werden als Gelegenheiten der stillen, täglichen Liturgie innerhalb des liturgischen Jahres betrachtet. Feriae der IV. Klasse, wie heute, werden vor allem durch die Lesungen und Gebete der fortlaufenden Messperikope des Temporale – also des je nach Kirchenjahr fortschreitenden 'allgemeinen' liturgischen Teils – geprägt. Der liturgische Rang ist niedrig (IV. Klasse), und das liturgische Grün signalisiert die Zeit im Jahreskreis, nach Pfingsten; es ist eine Zeit des geistlichen Wachstums und der Alltagstreue im Nachleben von Ostern und Pfingsten. Die traditionelle Ordnung setzt diese Feriae bewusst als 'Atempausen' ohne besonderen Festcharakter, damit die Gläubigen im alltäglichen Rhythmus verweilen und sich auf das Wort Gottes im evangelischen Lesungszyklus konzentrieren können. Die Feier dieser Feriae ist ein Aspekt der liturgischen Weisheit der Kirche: Zwischen den Hochfesten bieten sie Raum für Gebet der Kirche in Stille, für persönliche Frömmigkeit und das Mitgehen mit dem Kirchenjahr. Es ist der Werktag laut dem traditionellen römischen Kalender von 1962.
