Der heutige Tag, Freitag nach dem 22. Sonntag nach Pfingsten, hat im traditionellen römischen Kalender von 1962 (Vetus Ordo, gemäß den Rubriken von 1960) keinen eigenen Heiligen oder Festgedenken, sondern ist eine sogenannte 'Feria'. Das bedeutet, dass an diesem Tag keine besondere liturgische Feier vorgesehen ist, sondern die reguläre Tagesmesse des Wochentages gebetet wird. Die Liturgie richtet sich somit nach dem Temporale, also dem liturgischen Jahreskreis, der die Feier des Geheimnisses Christi entlang der Sonntage nach Pfingsten gestaltet. Die grüne liturgische Farbe erinnert an die Zeit im Jahreskreis, die von Hoffnung, Wachstum und dem Alltagsleben des Christen geprägt ist.
Die Erhaltung solcher Ferientage im tradierten Kalender ermöglicht stille, ruhige Gebetszeiten ohne große äußere Feier, wodurch Raum für das persönliche geistliche Leben geschaffen wird. Die Schriftlesungen und Gebete orientieren sich am Thema der Woche und der jeweiligen Sonntagstexte und helfen so, die spirituelle Bedeutung des Lebens mit und in Christus im Alltag zu vertiefen. Es ist ein Moment, um sich im Lichte des vergangenen Sonntags vom Wort Gottes und der heiligen Liturgie formen zu lassen. Diese Struktur des liturgischen Jahres mit ihren „grünen“ Werktagen ist ein wesentliches Element der geistlichen Pädagogik der Kirche, die den Gläubigen zur fortwährenden Heiligung auch außerhalb großer Feste anleiten will.
Heute wird also im traditionellen römischen Kalender (1962) kein besonderer heiliger oder ein besonderes Fest gefeiert.
