Marien-Samstag
Der heutige Tag im traditionellen römischen Kalender von 1962 ist als Marien-Samstag oder "Sanctæ Mariæ Sabbato" bekannt und wird als Gedenktag der allerseligsten Jungfrau Maria begangen. Dieser Gedenktag ist nicht an ein bestimmtes Ereignis im Leben Marias geknüpft, sondern Ausdruck der besonderen marianischen Frömmigkeit, die sich schon im frühen Mittelalter entwickelte. Die Praxis, den Samstag der Gottesmutter Maria zu weihen, wurzelt in der Tradition, die besagt, dass Maria am Karsamstag alleine im Glauben an die Auferstehung Christi festhielt, während die Apostel in Angst und Zweifel verharrten. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte wurde der Samstag zu einem bevorzugten Tag zur Verehrung der Jungfrau Maria, besonders durch Votivmessen und besondere Gebete.
Der Marien-Samstag im römischen Kalender von 1962 ist eine sogenannte Votivmesse IV. Klasse, die an den Samstagen außerhalb der Feste und liturgisch höheren Gedenktage gefeiert werden kann. Sie steht durch ihre ständige Wiederholung für die stete Fürsprache und Treue Mariens zum Heilsmysterium Christi. Diese Feier fördert innerhalb der Gläubigen die Verehrung der Gottesmutter, das Vertrauen auf ihre Fürbitte und die Orientierung am Vorbild ihres Glaubens und Gehorsams. Durch die Beibehaltung dieses Gedenkens zeigt der traditionelle römische Ritus die beständige Bedeutung Mariens im Leben der Kirche und der einzelnen Christen und betont zugleich dankbar ihre Rolle als Mittlerin und Fürsprecherin. Der Marien-Samstag lädt zur Betrachtung der Demut, Reinheit und Hingabe Mariens ein und ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der marianischen Spiritualität der katholischen Kirche, besonders im liturgischen Leben des Vetus Ordo.
Diese Feier ist heute nur im traditionellen (1962) römischen Kalender vorgesehen und durchzieht das gesamte Kirchenjahr mit marianischer Andacht.
