Der heutige Tag im traditionellen römischen Kalender von 1962 ist eine sogenannte "Feria" oder Werktag – genauer gesagt der Montag nach dem sechsten Sonntag nach Pfingsten (lateinisch: Feria secunda infra Hebdomadam VI post Octavam Pentecostes). An solchen Tagen wird keine spezifische Heiligen- oder Festfeier begangen, sondern die Feier des heiligen Messopfers orientiert sich am liturgischen Jahreskreis. Die Ferientage (Werktage ohne eigene Festordnung) bieten Raum für das tägliche geistliche Leben der Kirche und laden die Gläubigen dazu ein, die regulären liturgischen Texte des jeweiligen Wochentages innerlich zu reflektieren. Im Kontext des traditionellen Ritus liegt der Fokus an Ferientagen besonders auf der fortlaufenden Lesung der Epistel und des Evangeliums aus dem temporalen Teil des Messbuchs, die sich durch die nachpfingstliche Zeit ziehen. Dies entspricht dem Anliegen der Kirche, die Geheimnisse Christi und die Gnade des Heiligen Geistes, die an Pfingsten geschenkt wurden, weiter im Leben der Gläubigen fruchtbar zu machen. And they had a few little fishes; and He blessed them, and ordered them to be distributed. And they ate and were satisfied; and they took up what was left of the fragments, seven baskets. Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He dismissed them.
