Der heutige Tag im traditionellen römischen Kalender von 1962 ist der Dienstag nach dem 12. Sonntag nach Pfingsten, bekannt als "Feria Tertia infra Hebdomadam XII post Octavam Pentecostes." Dieser Tag zählt zu den sogenannten "Ferien" im liturgischen Jahreskreis: Tage ohne eigenes Hochfest, an denen die liturgische Messe und die Lesungen von dem entsprechenden Sonntag wiederholt werden oder alternative Gebete aus dem Missale verwendet werden können. Es handelt sich um einen Tag der IV. Klasse nach den liturgischen Rubriken von 1960, was bedeutet, dass er weder den Rang eines Heiligenfestes (wie etwa eines Martyrers oder Bekenners) noch eines doppelten Festes besitzt, sondern ein einfacher, sogenannter "grüner Tag" innerhalb des Zeitabschnitts nach Pfingsten ist.

Die Wahl der grünen Farbe weist auf Hoffnung, Leben und das Gedeihen christlicher Tugenden hin.

Im traditionellen Kalender ist es wichtig, auch die sogenannten Ferien bewusst liturgisch zu gestalten, da sie den Gläubigen Gelegenheit geben, im Alltag innezuhalten, das Wort Gottes zu betrachten und die täglichen Herausforderungen im Licht des Glaubens zu meistern. So bekräftigt die traditionelle Liturgie selbst an scheinbar "unspektakulären" Tagen die Treue zu Gott und die beständige geistliche Erneuerung.
