Am heutigen Tag feiert der traditionelle römische Kalender von 1962 keinen besonderen Heiligen oder Festtag, sondern es handelt sich um eine sogenannte "Feria", also einen Werktag ohne eigenes Fest. Konkret ist heute der Montag nach dem 10. Sonntag nach Pfingsten, ein Tag der liturgischen Zeit im Jahreskreis, der mit der grünen Farbe begangen wird und besonders der fortlaufenden Heiligung des Alltagslebens durch die tägliche Feier des heiligen Messopfers gewidmet ist. An solchen Wochentagen werden in der Liturgie Texte und Gebete vom letzten vorangegangenen Sonntag übernommen, sofern nicht ein höherer (also heiliger oder gebotener) Festtag gefeiert wird. Das regelmäßige Feiern der sogenannten "Ferien" lehrt die Gläubigen, dass jeder Tag dem Herrn gehört und erinnert daran, dass auch der gewöhnliche Alltag – ohne herausragende Festesfreude – geheiligt werden kann und soll. Der Aufbau des liturgischen Lebens mit zahlreichen "Ferien" ist aus der langen Tradition der Kirche hervorgegangen: Man will das Jahr nicht nur durch Hochfeste und Heiligenfeste prägen, sondern ebenso durch treue, geistliche Hingabe in der Stille des Alltags. Dies ist die Feier nach dem traditionellen römischen Kalender (1962).
