Am heutigen Tag feiert die Kirche im traditionellen römischen Kalender von 1962 das Fest der Seligen Jungfrau Maria vom Rosenkranz (lat. Beatæ Mariæ Virginis a Rosario). Dieses Fest ist von besonderer Bedeutung, da es an die Fürsprache und besonderen Schutz der Gottesmutter durch das Rosenkranzgebet erinnert. Ursprünglich wurde das Fest durch Papst Pius V. nach dem großen Sieg bei der Seeschlacht von Lepanto (1571) offiziell eingeführt: Die Christenheit sah diesen Sieg als Erhörung der inständigen Rosenkranzgebete an, die besonders in Rom und anderswo für das Überleben der Christenheit gesprochen wurden. Papst Gregor XIII. weitete das Fest später auf die ganze Kirche aus. Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde das Rosenkranzfest auf den ganzen Oktober bezogen, um die Gläubigen zum täglichen Gebet des Rosenkranzes anzuregen.
Die Feier des Rosenkranzfestes unterstreicht die tiefe Marienverehrung im katholischen Leben. Der Rosenkranz gilt als ein machtvolles Werkzeug der Fürbitte und geistigen Betrachtung, da er das Leben Christi im Licht Mariens meditierend betrachtet. Die Festlegung dieses Festes am 7. Oktober und sein Rang als Fest II. Klasse im traditionellen Kalender erinnern die Gläubigen daran, wie wichtig es ist, in Zeiten gesellschaftlicher und persönlicher Not Zuflucht zu Maria und dem Rosenkranz zu nehmen. In der Spiritualität dieses Tages steht der Gedanke im Vordergrund, dass Maria als Königin des Rosenkranzes alle Bitten, die in kindlichem Vertrauen an sie herangetragen werden, vor Gott trägt. Dies ist das Fest der traditionellen (1962) römischen Liturgie.
