St Dominic, Priest

Lord, from ancient times,
are you not my God, my Holy One,
you who are immortal?
Lord, you have established the Chaldeans
to carry out judgment;
you have made them a rock
to carry out punishment.
    Your eyes are too pure to look on evil,
you cannot tolerate the sight of oppression.
So why do you look on these traitors,
why do you remain silent
when the wicked swallows up the righteous man?
    You treat people like the fish of the sea,
and like reptiles that no one rules.
    The Chaldean catches them all with his hook,
takes them with his net,
and gathers them in his dragnet,
which fills him with joy and gladness!
    So he offers sacrifices to his net,
burns incense before his dragnet,
because he owes them an abundant catch
and plentiful food.
    Will he not stop emptying his net,
from slaughtering nations without pity?

    I will stand at my post,
stay on my watchtower,
watch to see what God will say to me,
and how he will answer my complaints.

    Then the Lord answered me:
"Write down a vision,
clearly, on tablets,
so that it may be easily read.
    For it is still a vision for the appointed time;
it strives toward its fulfillment and will not fail.
If it seems slow, wait for it:
it will surely come, it will not delay.
    The insolent one has a soul that is not upright,
but the just will live by his faithfulness."

            – The word of the Lord.

The Lord sits enthroned forever:
to judge, he has established his throne;
he judges the world with justice
and governs the peoples with righteousness.

Let him be the stronghold of the oppressed,
their fortress in times of distress:
they will rely on you, those who know your name;
you never abandon, Lord, those who seek you.

Celebrate the Lord who sits in Zion,
declare his deeds among the peoples!
Attentive to the blood that is shed, he remembers,
he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

At that time,
a man came up to Jesus,
and falling on his knees,
    he said:
"Lord, have mercy on my son.
He is epileptic
and he suffers greatly.
Often he falls into the fire
and, often also, into the water.
    I brought him to your disciples,
but they were not able to heal him."
    Jesus answered and said:
"Unbelieving and perverse generation,
how much longer must I remain with you?
How much longer must I put up with you?
Bring him here to me."
    Jesus rebuked the demon,
and it came out of him.
At that very moment, the child was healed.
    Then the disciples approached Jesus
and said to him privately:
"Why is it that we
could not cast it out?"
    Jesus replied to them:
"Because of your little faith.
Truly I tell you:
if you have faith
even as small as a mustard seed,
you will say to this mountain,
'Move from here to there,'
and it will move;
nothing will be impossible for you."

            – Let us acclaim the Word of God.
