Wednesday, week 29 in Ordinary Time

Brothers,
you have surely heard how the grace God gave me for you works:
by revelation, he made known to me the mystery,
as I have already written briefly.
By reading this, you can understand
my insight into the mystery of Christ.
This mystery was not made known
to people in past generations,
as it has now been revealed
to his holy apostles and prophets,
by the Spirit.
This mystery
is that all the nations are heirs to the same inheritance,
members of the same body,
sharers in the same promise,
in Christ Jesus,
through the proclamation of the Gospel.

Of this Gospel I became a minister
by the gift of God's grace given to me
by the working of his power.
To me, the very least of all the faithful,
this grace was given, to announce to the nations
the immeasurable riches of Christ,
and to bring to light for everyone the content of the mystery
which has been hidden for ages in God,
the creator of all things;
so that now, even the heavenly Powers themselves
may know, through the Church,
the manifold wisdom of God.
This is the eternal plan that God accomplished
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And our faith in Christ gives us the confidence we need
to approach God with complete trust.

– The word of the Lord.

Here is the God who saves me:
I trust, I am no longer afraid.
My strength and my song is the Lord;
he has become my salvation.

Give thanks to the Lord, proclaim his name,
declare among the nations his mighty deeds!
Repeat it: "Great is his name!"
Sing praise to the Lord.

He shows his greatness, and all the earth knows it.
Shout for joy and rejoice, inhabitants of Zion,
for he is great in your midst,
the Holy One of Israel!

At that time,
Jesus said to his disciples:
"You know this well:
if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief would come,
he would not have let his house be broken into.
You too, be ready:
it is at the hour you do not expect
that the Son of Man will come."
Then Peter said:
"Lord, is it to us that you are telling this parable,
or to everyone?"
The Lord replied:
"Who then is the faithful and wise steward
whom the master will put in charge of his household staff
to give them at the proper time their ration of food?
Blessed is that servant
whom his master finds doing so when he returns!
Truly, I tell you,
he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
But if the servant says to himself:
'My master is delayed,'
and if he begins to beat the menservants and maidservants,
to eat and drink and get drunk,
then when the master arrives,
on a day when he does not expect him
and at an hour he does not know,
he will dismiss him
and make him share the fate of the unfaithful.
The servant who knew his master's will,
but did not get ready or act according to his will,
will receive a severe beating.
But the one who did not know it,
and who did things worthy of punishment,
will receive only a light beating.
From those to whom much has been given,
much will be required;
from those to whom much has been entrusted,
more will be demanded."
