Brothers,
out of reverence for Christ,
be subject to one another;
wives, to their husbands, as to the Lord Jesus;
for the husband is the head of the wife,
just as Christ is the head of the Church,
he who is the Savior of his body.
So! As the Church submits to Christ,
so must wives always do
toward their husbands.
You, husbands,
love your wife as Christ loved:
he loved the Church,
he gave himself up for her,
to make her holy
by cleansing her with the bath of baptismal water,
accompanied by a word;
he wanted to present this Church to himself,
radiant,
without spot or wrinkle or anything like that;
he wanted her holy and without blemish.
In the same way husbands must love their wives:
as their own bodies.
He who loves his wife loves himself.
No one has ever hated his own body:
on the contrary, we feed it and care for it.
This is what Christ does for the Church,
because we are members of his body.
As Scripture says:
For this reason,
a man will leave his father and mother,
he will be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.
This mystery is great:
I say it in reference to Christ and the Church.
As for you,
each one must love his own wife as himself,
and the wife must respect her husband.
