Brothers,
draw your strength from the Lord
and from the power of his might.
Put on the armor given by God,
so that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
For we do not struggle against flesh and blood,
but against the Dominions of this world of darkness,
the Principalities, the Powers,
the evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Therefore, put on the armor given by God;
thus, you will be able to resist
when the day of evil comes,
and do everything to stand firm.
Yes, stand firm,
with the belt of truth around your waist,
wearing the breastplate of righteousness,
your feet fitted with the readiness to announce the gospel of peace,
and always holding the shield of faith,
which enables you to extinguish
all the flaming arrows of the Evil One.
Take the helmet of salvation
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
In all circumstances,
may the Spirit lead you to pray and make supplication:
stay alert,
be persistent in your supplication for all the faithful.
Pray also for me:
that a fitting word may be given me
when I open my mouth to make known with boldness
the mystery of the Gospel
of which I am an ambassador, in chains.
Pray then that I may proclaim the Gospel
with full boldness as I should.

But I must go on my way
today, tomorrow, and the following day,
for it is not fitting
for a prophet to perish outside Jerusalem.

you who kill the prophets
and stone those who are sent to you,
how often have I longed to gather your children
like a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,
but you were not willing!
See, your house is left to you.

you will not see me again
