These days are known as 'ferial days' (from the Latin 'feria'), and they carry the rank of IV classis, meaning no proper feast or commemoration overrides the ordinary liturgical observance. On such days, the Mass and Office are taken from the 'Dominica' (Sunday) immediately preceding, with prayers and readings that continue to express the themes of the liturgical season. The time after Pentecost is marked by a focus on the ongoing life of the Church, guidance of the Holy Ghost, and our continuing growth in virtue during the long 'green' season. The traditional structure of the liturgical year emphasizes these ferias as quiet opportunities for spiritual reflection, perseverance in prayer, and living out the fruits of Pentecost day by day in ordinary life.
